Life-Size LEGO Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Unveiled Alongside First Customer Car; Sets Record As Fastest LEGO Car Ever
Last year, a good friend of Egg Registry told us he was getting the very first Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear. That was cool news. Even cooler was what we learned next: his Sadair’s Spear would be replicated, 1:1 scale, as a LEGO car, and a matching LEGO Technic set would be produced and sold worldwide in the same spec.
Today, the car was unveiled to the world. The creation is a sight to behold: 327,906 LEGO elements (400kg worth), and a total build weighing 1,800kg. It took 9,400 hours to develop and construct: and the damn thing drives… fast!
LEGO and Koenigsegg took the car to the Goodwood estate to run the legendary hill. Running the hill in reverse, it managed to achieve a top speed of 111 km/h, a new world record for the fastest drivable LEGO car ever created by the LEGO Group (smashing the previous record of 50km/h). Behind the wheel for the record was Koenigsegg Test Driver, and all around cool guy, Markus Lundh. Last year, Lundh set a Hill climb record in the real Sadair’s Spear, so it is fitting for him to set this record with the LEGO car.
Inspiring the LEGO model, the first customer Sadair’s Spear is finished in Bespoke Dark-Tinted Clear Carbon Fiber with Champagne and Lava Orange accents and striping. It wears the new AirCore Carbon wheels developed exclusively for the Sadair’s Spear and has orange brake calipers. The rear wing is painted in Champagne with large ‘Koenigsegg’ lettering on the underside. The interior is primarily Lava Orange Perforated Alcantara (on the seats), with headrests, side cushioning, and the roof and back wall in Desiato Leather with Lava Orange stitching.
LEGO fans worldwide can get ahold of the 1:8 scale Sadair’s Spear Technic set starting in early July, priced at £399.99/ €449.99/ $449.99. The set, which contains 4,104 pieces, features an authentic V8 piston engine, a functioning 9-speed “Light Speed Transmission”, Triplex front and rear suspension, a functioning “Ghost Mode” including dihedral synchro-helix doors, and a removable targa roof.
According to Kasper Rene Hansen, Senior Model Designer at the LEGO Group, their “ambition was to create the most advanced LEGO Technic build [ever]”, and they certainly seem to have accomplished that.
Our heartfelt congratulations to the owner of the first customer Sadair’s Spear: it could not be joining a better collection (alongside his, checks notes, four other Koenigseggs). The car will make its public debut later this month at the Aurora Concours in Sweden before eventually travelling to the United States for delivery by Esser Automotive.
